Counselling, Psychotherapy and Art Therapy - for individuals, couples, children and groups.
Supervision and Training - for professional development and organisations.
Micky Mendelson has a counselling practice in Pinner in Harrow, Middlesex where she sees adults, couples, children of all ages and offers parent consultation.
Micky trained as a primary teacher at the Froebel Institute specialising in art. After several years of teaching in primary schools she qualified in Person-Centred Art Therapy and Counselling to meet the emotional needs of some of her pupils. She subsequently qualified as a supervisor.
She has extensive experience in counselling and offering Person-Centred Art Therapy to adults and children over a period of twenty-five years. Her approach is rooted in Carl Rogers' Person-Centred philosophy and theory, while she has a wide knowledge of other approaches. She has worked in a variety of settings including a women's counselling service, cancer support, probation services, drug and alcohol services, the NHS, schools and children's services, and GP surgery.
Micky has particular experience and interest in developing voluntary counselling services, working with trainee counsellors on placements, women's issues, relationships, addictions and working with children. She also has experience in the relationships between different levels of management, volunteer counsellors and clients and how this can be positively facilitated through the Person-Centred approach. She enjoys devising new training programmes and courses.
Her general training approach is inclusive and experiential, preferring an interactive, lively learning environment that takes into account participants' diverse learning styles and learning needs. Micky incorporates the use of art and drama as well as more traditional training approaches and is not averse to using humour liberally!
She lectured and tutored at Harrow College for five years on the first Foundation Degree in Counselling in the country, which she helped to devise and develop.
Currently Micky counsels at a school for children with medical and physical disabilities, facilitates supervision development groups, and supervises a rape crisis and sexual abuse counselling service. She also has a private practice in Pinner, Harrow, where she offers Person-Centred art therapy and counselling for adults and children, couple and relationship counselling, parent consultation, and supervision and professional consultation.
Micky has contributed to 'Time to Listen to Children' published by Routledge in 1999 and co-wrote a manual on how to develop counselling services at Women's Centres in a joint venture with Watford Women's Centre and Business Link in 2004.
